Happy International Women's Day!
We dedicate this special day to expectant mothers and their newborns, whom we support at the Mowbray Maternity Hospital in Cape Town.
Many women in South Africa live without a partner and are therefore completely on their own. Almost half of the children in South Africa are raised by one parent, a grandmother or a sibling. The patients who come to Mowbray Maternity Hospital come from the poorest regions in and around Cape Town. Over 90% of them cannot pay the hospital fees. Some visit the clinic without having eaten anything.
At Mowbray Maternity Hospital, where almost 1000 children are born every month, we provide moral support and food to pregnant women and mothers through the Circle of Nourishment project. We also distribute packages of reusable nappies, baby clothes, knitted beanies, kangaroo wraps, maternity pads and hygiene products for the mothers. Such a "stork bundle" costs around CHF 41.
ROKPA helps between 200 and 350 needy women and their babies every week. All of this is only possible thanks to many volunteers who have been lovingly helping the mothers for years. And together with you we can achieve even more! Donate now
