Girls and Women: The project sponsorship with leverage

Experience in development cooperation proves that the strengthening of women and girls has a broadly positive impact on society as a whole. Therefore it is ROKPA’s concern to involve many female beneficiaries.

Since 1996, ROKPA has been operating a workshop with 10 seamstresses in Kathmandu/Nepal. All are mothers from the poorest backgrounds. Through ROKPA, they have learned the artisanal production of textiles over the years and receive a regular wage. From 2018, ROKPA also offers courses in textile crafts and the capacity of the Women’s Workshop could be doubled to 20 seamstresses.

In addition, in Nepal ROKPA runs a partnership with the NGO "be artsy", in an effort against the social exclusion that women experience during their menstrual periods. More than 1,000 people were already made aware of the issue and some 250 young women received hygiene products.

In South Africa, ROKPA supports pregnant women and women in childbed from the poorest backgrounds with the "Circle of Nourishment". The women and their companions are offered peanut butter and jam sandwiches, as well as fruits for strengthening. They also get maternity packages with diapers, infant and baby clothes and other useful items to take home with their newborns.

A project sponsorship offers you an ideal opportunity to get involved with people, who are particularly close to your heart, in a targeted manner and with little administrative effort.
